Aeronomy Part A
P.M.Banks, G.Kockarts 1973 PSU library QC 879.B27
Borrowed to learn about the upper atmosphere; the book focuses on the suborbital atmosphere, mostly the troposphere and stratosphere below 100 km. Chapter 1 shows density and composition graphs up to 1500 km, but the upper ionosphere and thermosphere are mostly ignored. Much detailed chemistry and optical/photon effects in the stratosphere and troposphere, but nothing useful about longwave thermal infrared transmission through the stratosphere.
The Wein thermal spectrum peak is 2898 μm⋅K, so the 250K layer of the stratosphere peaks at 12 μm infrared wavelengths. Most graphs describe solar-photon Ångstrom-wavelength X-ray chemistry.
