Some commentary and ideas regarding the launch loop:

Electrodynamic suspension of the rotor loop was ruled out as having much higher losses to eddy currents. What assumptions were made in making those calculations? A simple ribbon vs. a more complex structure designed to prevent eddy losses. Various suspension magnet setups.

How practical would solar power distributed along the length of the track be?
